Where I'm most useful

Sensitive data, AI, and scrutiny

I help healthtech, AI, and research-led software teams get their product, data, and governance foundations ready for customers, funders, and regulatory scrutiny.

Selected outcome

Spin-out Product & Data Readiness Review

Research prototypes becoming commercial software, often with sensitive data, ethics history, university infrastructure, and unclear handover boundaries.

Common pressure

  • Leaving the university environment without losing control of data, governance, or architecture.
  • Turning ethics-approved research software into commercial-ready product foundations.
  • Aligning founders, engineers, DPOs, funders, and clinical or university stakeholders.

What closure looks like

  • Controller, processor, data-flow, and infrastructure questions made explicit.
  • Architecture, governance, and documentation gaps converted into an engineering backlog.
  • A readiness story the team can use with funders, partners, and future customers.

About

Hi 👋 I'm Brian.

Over the past 11+ years, I've worked across healthcare, AI, education, blockchain, and a variety of SaaS - often taking products from early concept through to production within environments where ethics, regulation, and trust matter.

My primary focus falls between engineering and compliance. I help teams build production architecture, translate privacy and regulatory requirements into practical engineering work, and expose risk early where a technical audit is useful.

This includes privacy-by-design controls, DPIA-ready documentation, access and retention models, AI governance readiness, and preparation for frameworks like the EU AI Act (I'm currently completing the AIGP certification).
